Circus Mircus brings the funky earworm to Eurovision 2022

Back in November, Earthlings received an intriguing message from Circus Mircus, the Georgian representative for Eurovision Song Contest 2022. On March 9 they released the addictive Lock Me In, foregoing the official video in solidarity with Ukraine.

This is phenomenal -- the song and the statement.

All their music is great.

It's a very different thing, in a way, but during the Olympics, I was so impressed with how all the Georgian figure skaters just brought it even if they really didn't rank all that highly. Combined with this makes me think I need to start paying more attention to and seek out cultural things that are coming out of Georgia.

Lovely clave on this one (lovely everything, but first and foremost lovely clave).
Also: whatever type of video they made for this is eloquently making its point by denying its colour to the world.

(On further inspection I see that Circus Mircus have not one but two songs up their sleeve that sound like Eurovision winners - "Musicien" is the one that does the whole catchy English/French melange - their video includes a workable recipe and live mouse)

I quite like Lock Me In. It's got a funky quality to it that reminds me of David Bowie, but I also feel like I hear bits of Devo, Animal Collective, and Modest Mouse in the sound there, too. It's very indie, and pretty different from what Georgia has released previously. I really hope it gets the bonkers staging it deserves and qualifies.
